Who is Donald Trump

With Donald Trump now officially being the Republican front runner, it comes down to one final question: What kind of person is he really? A friend of mine and I recently discussed who Trump actually compares to. We have jokingly decided that he is most like Ulfric Stormcloak from Elder Scrolls. Below is a comparison of the two:

Ulfric Stormcloak

1. Leader of the Stormcloak rebellion

2. Wants to make Skyrim open only to the Nords

3. An opportunist

4. Wants Skyrim to become free from its rulers

Donald Trump

1. Leader of the Anti-Establishment rebellion

2. Wants to make America open only to Americans

3. An opportunist, also a businessman

4. Wants America to become great again

The list goes on but we’ll leave it at that and continue on.

Description of Ulfric Stormcloak from thisWikia page:

“Ulfric Stormcloak is the Jarl of Windhelm and leader of the Stormcloak rebellion. He believes that Skyrim should free itself from the Empire. Some believe Ulfric to be a hero, while others label him an opportunist.”

Like Ulfric, Trump is an opportunist, a man willing to do anything and everything to get the job done right. In our case, he wants to free America from its corrupted politicians.  Trump is also leading the anti-establishment rebellion. Also like Ulfric wanting to make Skyrim for the Nords only, kicking everyone else out, Trump wants to keep the Muslims out of the country (temporarily) and build a wall at the Mexican boarder to keep illegals out of the country. Now before you start ranting at me, allow me to finish. I agree with Trump on these issues. Unlike Ulfric, Trump is a bit open minded. I’m all for making people apply for citizenship legally and earning their path to success rather than it being handed to them. I also agree with Trump on halting the immigration process for a short while until tensions cool down and issues are sorted out. But what I don’t agree with is building the wall as it is not necessary and I don’t fancy the wall as a good action plan. This is the 21st century, so why not use the latest tech like drones for instance? Drones are cost effective and won’t cost as much as maintaining that wall. Its Berlin all over again. Moving forward, however, I do like how Trump speaks his mind unlike the lying politicians. Although, Trump needs better things to say rather “its gonna be great great great” and you’re gonna “love it love it love it”. Yes, we know, we heard you. But what’s your strategy?

Ever since Obama took over office in 2008, Americans have been looking for a true leader. Obama was a joke in my opinion. I mean good grief how many times has he apologized for the most pathetic reasons? He reportedly considered apologizing for Nagasaki and Hiroshima but decided otherwise. Anyway, on with my main point. Americans are thirsty for leadership. But do we know the difference between a mirage and the reality of our situation?

To better explain my main point, take a look at the scene below from the 1995 film The American President: Start at 2:10 and watch it to the end from there.

Lewis (Played by Michael J. Fox):
“It is not only permissible to question our leaders, its our responsibility.”

“People want leadership and in the absence of genuine leadership they’ll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They’re so thirsty for it they’ll crawl through the desert toward a mirage and when they discover there’s no water they’ll drink the sand.”

Andrew (Played by Michael Douglas):
“Lewis, we’ve had presidents who are beloved who couldn’t find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don’t drink the sand because they’re thirsty, they drink the sand because they don’t know the difference.”

People like Trump because he speaks his mind. He stepped up to the plate, spoke his mind, and people support him for that. But is he really the person we need him to be? Is he the leader we all envisioned? Or is he a mirage as Ulfric was seen as? Comment your thoughts below.
